Investment confidence returning in 2024
As the dreary years of 2019-2023 fall away, confidence is returning that the coming months will generate activity essential for a healthy property sector as foreign investment returns to pre-pandemic levels.
The presence of apparent current empty stock, combined with that yet to enter the market, long-term investment is still appealing to foreign investors in this largely stable market.
Many agree that Cambodia weathered the pandemic well and, despite a glut of stock, quality projects will do well as sophisticated investors expect more from developers.
Confidence returning to Cambodia
Koh Rong
Koh Rong Island is the second largest island in Cambodia 25km off the coast in the Gulf of Thailand. It covers 78sqm and is blessed with 43km of beaches.
The Royal Group has a 99 year lease and will build Asia’s first planned resort island.
There are few people, dirt roads, no cars, no traffic jams and the speedboat from Sihanoukville takes 45 minutes.
The US version of Survivor seasons 31 and 32 were filmed in Koh Rong.
About Kampong Som
Sihanoukville (Kampong Som) is a coastal city and capital with the same name.
It is located in the country’s south west on the Gulf of Thailand. The city is surrounded by beaches and marsh lands bordering Ream National Park.
The city has one navigable river, the Ou Trojak Jet running from Otres Pagoda to Otres. A number of islands are nearby which have seen recent development.
In the last few years, the area has seen unprecedented levels of Chinese investment with around 100 casinos opening up in the city.
The city’s profile has changed significantly with thousands of mainland Chinese workers, developers and investors settling there.
In 2019 nearly 80,000 Chinese lived in Sihanoukville (90% of the city’s expat population) making it a major city in China’s One Belt One Road Initiative.
