According to the World Bank’s 2017 report, ‘Urban Development in Phnom Penh’, successful economies tend to show high levels of urbanisation — and Cambodia is no exception.
Currently, only 21% of Cambodia’s population lives in urban areas, but that figure is projected to climb to 36% by 2050. Even so, the country’s urbanisation rate still trails behind what would be expected given its GDP.
