About Porsenchey
Porsenchey (or Pou Senchey) is an administrative district (Khan) subdivided into 11 communes (Sangkats) in which the Phnom Penh International Airport is located.
It covers much of the western part of the capital, located about 10km south west of the city centre. It is one of the largest of the of Phnom Penh and houses about 200,000 residents.
Porsenchey – one of the largest emerging districts in the city – continues to be an attractive choice for developers to build low – mid end residential projects. This is largely due to the area’s relatively low land prices, large land parcels and proximity to the city centre and airport.
Sandwiched between the city centre and the south western suburbs, developers targeted the area for residential projects priced $30,000 and $70,000, suitable for lower-middle income families.
In 2017, Por Senchey reportedly had 94 major developments and 111 smaller-scale projects under construction, amounting to a combined 30,000 residential units.
With its high population density, the area has more factories and residential projects than any other district in Phnom Penh. Since then, however, land prices in the area have increased dramatically.
About Sen Sok (near Porsenchey)
Sen Sok district was part of Kandal province and absorbed into Phnom Penh’s expansion. It was created through the merger of three Sangkats (Khmuonh, Phnom Penh Thmei and Tuek Thla).
The area is home to 10% of the city’s population in the northwest, a fast growing region of development. In the last few years, there have been many high profile projects with AEON 2, Global House and Makro and many mixed projects and boreys.
About Meanchey (near Porsenchey)
Since 2000, Meanchey has developed with the emergence of factories and, more recently, large scale projects. Filling Boeng Tumpun lakes allowed large-scale developments to grow and includes mixed use developments, schools, residential complexes and malls.
Steung Meanchey used to be one of the most impoverished areas in Phnom Penh, due to dumpsites located there. Consequently, many NGOs moved there to assist the poor. Recently the area has improved with modern infrastructure, road upgrades and overall development.
